What makes a closet custom
A closet is custom when the room comes first. We measure the walls, the ceiling height, the window and the door swing, and then we draw cabinetry that fills that particular space. Nothing is chosen from a range of standard widths and trimmed to fit. The result runs wall to wall where the room allows it, and the sections sit where your hands expect them.
That is the difference Terry McCarthy started this company to make. National Closet Company already builds closets across Middle Tennessee; Nashville Luxury Closets & Cabinets is its upgraded line, for clients who want a closet that reads as part of the house rather than an insert in it. That starts with the consultation, step 1 of the 4 we follow on every project, and the one we never rush.
Walk-in closets
A walk-in is planned around an inventory of what goes in it. Long hanging for dresses and coats. Double hanging for shirts and trousers. Drawers for folded things, a shoe wall, shelves for bags, a pull-out for belts and ties. We count them with you at the consultation, then lay the room out so the things you reach for daily are at the height you reach for them.
- Double-hang and long-hang sections in the proportions your wardrobe needs
- Drawer banks with dividers for jewelry, watches and accessories
- Shoe walls with angled or flat shelves, lit if you want them to be
- Glass-front doors for the pieces you would rather keep dust-free
Dressing rooms
A dressing room is a walk-in closet with somewhere to get ready. It usually adds an island with a stone top, a bench or a seat, a full-length mirror and light good enough to judge a color by. It needs floor space as much as wall space, so we draw the walkways first and fit the island to them, never the other way around.
Reach-in closets and wardrobes
Not every bedroom has a walk-in. A reach-in closet, a guest room wall or a bedroom without any closet at all can take built-in wardrobes made to the same standard, with the doors and trim matched to the house.
Finishes
Walnut with brass, painted shaker, white lacquer with glass, smoked oak with black metal: the 8 looks are directions to start from. Every one can change, door style by door style and pull by pull, until it suits the rest of your home.
